Nickel and DIme: Week Wrap-up

(Cotton swabs — gosh, I really hate writing the word swab. It gives me the heebie jeebies. $2.99, Mascara 9.99, Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers Pink Lemonade 1.99)

OK, so this week was a real doozy for spending — I ended up buying more than expected. First up, I needed to make another run to the grocery store and ended up spending $46.12 on produce. Then I ran out of the above and ended up giving myself a little treat with the Lip Smackers. It was a throwback to a simpler time and I felt like being nostalgic. Something about Lip Smackers and warmer weather — it always makes be remember what being 12-years old feels like. I needed to get two, um, bras. No picture needed on that one ;) They ended up costing in total $67.95. Half of the population, the female half, probably realizes that 67 bucks  isn't too bad a price to pay for such essential items. Those things aren't cheap — even on sale. But I did end up filling out a rebate for $10 — so really, in theory those bras only cost me $57. 95. I also bought a cute summer top at Winners for $16.99. An impulse purchase for sure, but I needed a little pick-me-up and I am a girl.

This project is really getting me into the mind-set of saving money. A year ago, there would have been no way that I would have even bothered to fill out and mail in a rebate for something I bought at Sears. But I did it, and didn't think twice. The more I think about my purchases, the more I realize that this project isn't about money. It's more about how I think about my purchases and seeing money in a different way. When I buy something, I am in a sense adding that item to my life. It's kind of revolutionary in a way. So, if I can save a couple of bucks here and there on stuff I need — why not? Didn't even have to buy a stamp!
