the coolest uncool city

The New York Times travel section once called Minneapolis the coolest uncool city in the world. I think Minneapolis is super cool (in the same way your best friend's older brother is still a raging headbanger and knows where to get the best weed kind of cool) and I'm heading there for my birthday to see Sigur Ros. Can I get a woot woot! I like going to Minnesota because it's an irony-free zone — which I need at the moment. Oh, and every guy over the age of 35 who lives there looks exactly like Paul Westerberg. My husband and I play the game "Where's Westerberg" whenever we go. Apparently, he's everywhere and still really cranky. Here's some other things I'm looking forward to doing or seeing in Minneapolis:

1. Taking a photo of an Al Franken for Senate lawn poster.
2. Buying a flannel shirt at Ben Franklin's. How very '90s of me.
3. Eating at Pop restaurant.
4. Ikea! Especially the fabric section.
5. Buying the new Jenny Lewis album Acid Tongue
6. Eating American junk food — they have the very best in junk food technology.
7. Book shopping.
8. Taking a hike along Lake Superior.
9. Eating pizza at Sven & Oles — nothing ironic about this place either.
10. The best for last — going on a long car ride with my husband. Listening to music and talking for hours and taking photos along the way. This is my favourite part about the whole trip.

Thanks so much! I'm still new to all this, but was so inspired by all the great blogs out there — especially yours. The photos on your site are gorgeous. This is my first time seeing Sigur Ros live — they're one of my favourite bands. I have a feeling I'm in for a real treat. Have you seen them perform live before?
